Extended river cruises

For safety reasons, our boatmen and guides are not permitted to go further than Sukau village downriver and Bukit Batangan upriver on our regular afternoon river cruises (maximum duration 2 hours). This is to ensure that you will arrive back at the lodge before dark and that, in the event of a breakdown, contact can be made via radio or phone and assistance can be provided.

​If you would like to spend more time on the river, or search for wildlife outside of the boundaries of our standard cruises, we offer the option to prebook an extended river cruise on our twin-engine long range boat.

This allows you to spend up to an extra 2 hours on the boat, normally during the afternoon, and travel as far downriver to Abai or upriver to Batu Putih in search of pygmy elephants and other sought after inhabitants of the Kinabatangan river.

Additional information

The departure time for an extended afternoon river cruise will be between 2 - 2.30pm, refreshments & snacks will be provided but please note that there is no cover (or toilet!) on the boat. Please bring sun protection, rain protection and place any valuable items in a dry-bag.

​A minimum of 4 people is required for the Extended river cruise to depart and the cost is RM180 per person, a maximum of 12 spaces are available on the long range boat each day. Please ask us in advance via email or during your stay at reception for further information, we will be happy to assist you.
