In harmony with Nature

We are fortunate to be located in an area of outstanding natural biodiversity and it is our responsibility to do our utmost to protect the landscape, wildlife and communities around us. Responsible tourism and sustainable business practises are the key to preserving this fragile area for generations to come.

Community engagement

Engaging the local community in ecotourism and offering an alternative livelihood to palm oil production is essential if we are to protect the forest around us. The majority of our staff are employed directly from the villages around us including Kampung Bilit, Kampung xxx. In past decades the forest was seen as a free and limitless resource providing timber and ultimately space to grow more lucrative crops. Over the years, attitudes have begun to change and through working in ecotourism, the local community have gained an understanding of the value of the forests & wildlife in attracting overseas visitors to the area and how this can in return benefit them.

Forest Preservation

The Sabah state government gazetted the "Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary" in 1997 protecting a total of 26,000 Ha in the Lower Kinabatangan region. Further efforts by conservationists to have this area extended to cover a broader part of the river have so far gone unanswered. Our goal over the coming years is to develop a Forest Preservation Fund which will be used to purchase or secure the lease of native forest that is otherwise prone to conversion into plantations. In addition to securing the future of the remaining forest, we will implement a reforestation program aimed at restoring vital areas of degraded forest and provide a better habitat for the area's wildlife.

Sustainable design

All our room are equipped with energy-saving lightbulbs and inverter air-conditioning units to promote efficient energy us. Guests are further advised to turn off their lights and air-conditioning when not it use to conserve energy.

Our main water supply comes from the filtration plant in Bilit village but in addition to this we are collecting rain water for use around the resort
